Geico Auto Insurance

After seeing too many humorous Geico television commercials that initially throw the viewer off the fact that they are watching a car insurance ad, I decided to try their on-line site. Geico.com is extremely user friendly. Happily, unlike their TV ads, what you see is what you get. After a quick load-up, I clicked on “Geico auto insurance.” The only distraction was a popup ad for Ipods, which I quickly deleted without reading. It’s my way to feel good about fighting spam.

Inside the site, there is an assortment of sponsored links in which I could choose from a number of web sites and compare policies: Esurance.com, AIGAuto.com, Progressive.com, Insurance.com, QuotesCount.com, Localinsurance.com, Netquote.com, Intelliquote.com, AllInsuranceNeeds.com, and GetAGreatRate.com. I decided to click on the first site, Esurance.com. The on-line application was straightforward, easy to understand and fill out. If you weren’t familiar with a certain term, like the difference between passive or non-passive auto theft alarms, a quick click of the highlighted terms and a very simple explanation appeared. The best part was that the definitions were not hieroglyphic in nature and the terms’ definitions were not used to describe what those terms meant like dictionaries sometimes have the most annoying habit of doing. I really hate when that happens.

The entire process--I fought the urge to pretend I owned a Porsche Turbo Carrerra and instead entered a 2004 Ford Taurus LX, four-door sedan--took about ten minutes to fill out the appropriate information blocks. All required information fields were highlighted with an asterisk and the “Next” buttons would not let you proceed to the screen until all information on that page was properly filled out. After I customized my policy, a summary screen revealed everything I chose from discounts for taking a driver’s course, to bodily injury limits, to uninsured motorist insurance, to the deductible that I opted for.

Another click on the “Next” button and I received my six-month premium quote! There was also a feature to compare that proposed policy. Further, the site gave me the option to save my information to log on at a later time, or I could call an agent via 1-800 number or click to buy my policy on-line. Also, my Email account received a copy of my customized summary screen for my records.

There was even a feature that asked me to rate the ease of the site. Obviously, Esuarnace.com is concerned about the level of quality control in their site to ensure a fast, efficient, user-friendly, car insurance on-line service.

Overall, I was very impressed at the ease of navigating this site. Although this experiment made me realize that I still cannot afford a Porsche, I did receive good news. I discovered that perhaps I could save some money with relative ease by clicking on Geico.com
